Champions League, Premier League are off to a thrilling start

AC Milan returned to the Champions League after their 2013-14 season exit

The game of football last week was very fascinating to watch with big clubs clashing against each other in top leagues across the world.

The UEFA Champions League as always was the eye-catcher with top teams providing their fans with their captivating performances and giving a great head start to the most popular European football tournament.

The first matchday was quite appealing with a lot of good and surprising results. The most astonishing would be the defeat of Manchester United against the Swiss club Young Boys with the odds against the latter. The clash between Real Madrid and Inter Milan was another thriller with none of the clubs able to score up until the last minutes of the game when Rodrygo was subbed in and scored for the Los Blancos.

In what is to be looked like an exhibition match, Man City scored six goals against German club RB Leipzig but it was not just that, Leipzig somehow managed to score three goals and the match ended 6-3.

AC Milan made their comeback in the Champions League after almost eight years and did not bore the football fans. Liverpool vs AC Milan was definitely a treat to watch. The thrilling match saw Liverpool make a comeback against the Italian giants after an amazing Jordan Henderson goal to make the score 3-2 and secure points in the group.

The defending UCL champions Chelsea was finding it difficult to score against Zenit but Lukaku opened the bill for Chelsea after scoring in the last quarter of the game.

Ajax vs Sporting was quite a decent match as well with Ajax thrashing five goals against the Portuguese club with the final score of 5-1. Spanish champions Atletico Madrid had quite a difficult time against Porto with none of the sides able to score against each other.

After their gigantic victory against FC Barcelona with a scoreline of 8-2 last season, Bayern faced the Catalan club once again in the group stage and marked their victory by pocketing three goals.

Both Lille vs Wolfsburg and Dynamo Kyiv vs Benfica were decent fixtures but surprisingly ended up being draws.

Villareal vs Atalanta was an excellent match but ended up in a draw as well but with a scoreline of 2-2 and a red card to Villareal’s Coquelin.

Lionel Messi played his first Champions League game for PSG but was not able to score although Ander Herrera managed to open the account for PSG, the match ended in a draw with Club Brugge’s Hans Vanaken scoring in the 27th minute.

Although the first week of the Champions League has been amazing, it has been reported that the overall viewership figures for the first week were comparatively lower than the last two seasons.

The Premier League game week was fascinating to watch as well with big fixtures involved on the weekends. Newcastle United faced Leeds which ended up being a hard-fought draw. Wolves were disappointed as Brentford managed to smash twice against them.

Watford turned out to be victorious against Norwich with a final scoreline of 3-1 and was an intense clash. Arsenal added another victory to their pocket as a disappointing start is finally appearing to vanish for the London club.

Man City’s clash against Southampton ended up in a draw with Pep Guardiola’s side unable to grab even a single goal. Liverpool managed to remain in the top four after defeating Crystal Palace by 3-0.

Leicester had a great start to their match against Brighton but turned out to be the losing side after conceding twice. Aston Villa and Chelsea both managed to smash thrice and win three points against their respective opponents Everton and Spurs with the Blues acquiring the number one spot.

Manchester United vs West Ham can be termed as the most thrilling match. United conceded the first goal, later tied by an exquisite goal by Cristiano Ronaldo and the drama continued after West Ham won a penalty in the dying minutes of the game which was eventually saved by David De Gea. The match concluded after Lingard scored a goal at the 89th minute and United moved third on the PL table.
