With a massive following on social media and the tendency to grab millions of eyeballs, Rohit Sharma is one of the most marketable cricketers of all time.

The captain of the Indian cricket team and one of the most dashing batters of all time, Rohit Sharma, turned 37 today, i.e., Tuesday, April 30.

Mr Sharma has seen it all, from dominating cricket in the streets of Mumbai to winning the hearts of every cricket fan. RG Sharma made his international debut in 2007, at the age of just 20. Following a dull start to the Indian innings, the right-handed middle-order batter then quickly brushed his way to a fluid half-century against players like Pollock, Ntini, and Morkel in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007.

After a string of crucial performances in the T20 World Cup and an outstanding Ranji Trophy record, Rohit was selected for the ODI squad. He left his mark in the CB series in Australia, making some pivotal cameos against veteran players like Stuart Clark and Brett Lee.

The young batter’s fortunes in white-ball cricket took a positive turn when he was asked to open against England in Mohali in January 2013. He scored 83 off 93, which somewhat cemented his position in the Indian team. In the same year during Sachin Tendulkar‘s farewell series, he made his Test debut. Although The Mumbai-based batter had a strong start to his red ball career, playing in the middle order prevented him from living up to his reputation. He performed exceptionally well when asked to open the innings in red ball cricket, much like he did in limited overs. The 37-year-old has been scoring runs at an impressive rate since he switched to opening in the Test format.

Known as “Hitman” owing to his destructive batting style, he has amassed 10709 runs in ODIs, 3974 in T20Is, and 4138 in Tests. The batter has also recorded three double hundreds in ODIs, which is the most by any batter, and the highest individual score in limited-overs cricket, i.e., 264 against Sri Lanka.

The legendary Indian batter also led India to the finals of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, where they lost to Australia by six wickets. The Indian team had a commendable campaign, winning all 10 games, which included nine league stage fixtures and a semi-final contest.

He was later made skipper of the side in the middle of the 2013 edition, which completely changed the fortunes of the Reliance-owned IPL franchise. From 2013 to 2020, Rohit led MI to five IPL titles. Under his leadership, MI even won the Champions League T20 in 2013. Talking about individual skills, Rohit is also one of the IPL’s all-time leading run scorers, trailing only Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.

Ahead of the IPL 2024, Rohit was replaced as the MI skipper by Hardik Pandya, who returned to the team after three years, which caused a massive furore among the Mumbai fans.
