Chelsea midfielder Jorginho voted UEFA Men’s Player of the Year

Kevin De Bruyne and N'golo Kante were second and third on the list respectively.

Italian and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho Frello has been awarded the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award for the outstanding campaign he had in the 2020/21 season. Jorginho first registered the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea and then also managed to win the UEFA Euros title with his national team Italy.

Moreover, he was also Chelsea’s highest goal scorer in the Premier League with seven goals (all from penalties). With the amount of silverware he had this season, no other player was close to him. However, surprisingly even though Jorginho won the Men’s Player of the Year award, he could not win the Midfielder of the year award.

That prestige went to French international and club teammate N’golo Kante. Eduoard Mendy won the UEFA Best Goalkeeper of the Year and Thomas Tuchel won the Best Coach of the Year award respectively.

Jorginho came first with a total of 175 points whereas, Manchester City talisman was second with 167 points. N’golo Kante came in at third position with 160 points and finally, former FC Barcelona player Lionel Messi was at fourth with 148 points.

Jorginho will be seen tomorrow in action when Chelsea face Liverpool at Anfield at 10:30 PM IST. Chelsea has pocketed six points so far by winning its first two fixtures.
