Melbourne Stars terminate contract with Ben Dunk

Melbourne Stars has mutually agreed with Ben Dunk to terminate his contract with immediate effect. The veteran batsman has been part of the squad since 2017. However, the performance has taken a downward turn this season, leading to both parties deciding to terminate the contract.

Since signing a long-term deal with Melbourne Stars, Dunk has failed to deliver. He managed only 621 runs in 42 innings since joining the club. During the ongoing season, Dunk has only managed 69 runs in five innings. Courtesy of a string of poor performances, Stars might have decided to part ways with Dunk. He announced the decision to leave stars on January 13. (Stats courtesy: ESPNcricinfo)

Dunk has played a lot of cricket in BBL over the years. He has featured for Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Sixers, Melbourne Stars, and Hobart Hurricanes in the tournament. Considering he is only 33, there is a lot of cricket left in him. Dunk may end up landing a new contract at another BBL team if his form with the bat improves. He will be looking to impress other BBL teams by performing in other T-20 leagues across the globe as he has done in the past.

Meanwhile, Melbourne Stars will be looking to gain some sort of momentum to climb up the table in BBL. They have struggled this season to stitch a good run of form. Stars currently sit in the seventh position with three wins in nine league games. Considering how tight the table is, Melbourne Stars will just need to win a few games in a row to move into the upper half of the table. They can start doing that with a victory against Adelaide Strikers on January 15.
