IPL 2024 LSG vs DC: Fraser-McGurk, Pant led Capitals to a six-wicket win over Super Giants

Following this win, DC have secured their second win of the season and are now ninth in the points table.

In the 26th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

LSG won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision turned out to be abysmal as the unit suffered an early loss of wickets courtesy of Khaleel Ahmed’s brilliant opening spell. Kuldeep Yadav also gave an excellent show with the ball as he kept LSG batters quiet in the middle overs.

Chasing 168, Prithvi Shaw (32) began hammering from one end, while David Warner lost his wicket cheaply. Shaw batted for a good seven overs, in which he hit six boundaries. Along with him, Jake Fraser-McGurk (55) showcased his brilliance with the bat as he scored his maiden IPL fifty. The batter began his innings in an aggressive manner, smashing five massive sixes and two fours, which put DC in a good position to win the game. Along with him, skipper Rishabh Pant (41) also played at a strike rate of 170. Both batters added 77 runs for the third wicket partnership, which certainly helped DC bag two points. The likes of Shai Hope (11) and Tristan Stubbs (15) also contributed valuable runs and eventually scored winning runs in the 19th over itself.

With the bat in the first inning, Quinton de Kock (19) and KL Rahul (39) gave LSG a decent start but couldn’t bat longer. No other batter could even get to double digits except Deepak Hooda (10), Ayush Badoni (55*) and Arshad Khan (20). Notably, Badoni and Khan put 73 runs together for the eighth wicket partnership, which rescued LSG after a bad start and took them to a decent score of 167/7 in 20 overs.

While bowling first, Khaleel Ahmed provided an early breakthrough for the side as he picked up two wickets. Kuldeep was another star for DC as he grabbed three vital wickets in the middle overs. With them, one wicket each was also picked up by Ishant Sharma and Mukesh Kumar.

For LSG with the ball, Ravi Bishnoi secured two wickets, while one wicket each was obtained by Naveen-ul-haq and Yash Thakur.

Kuldeep Yadav was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling show. Following this win, DC have secured their second win of the season and are now ninth in the points table.

Scorecard:

Lucknow Super Giants: 167/7, Overs Ayush Badoni 55, Kuldeep Yadav 3/20
