IPL 2024 CSK vs SRH: Gaikwad, Deshpande help CSK breeze past SRH in Chepauk

CSK have claimed their fifth win of the season and are now third on the points table.

In the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 78 runs at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.

SRH won the toss and asked CSK to bat first. The home team lost Ajinkya Rahane early in the powerplay but skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (98) along with Daryl Mitchell (52) built the innings together, scoring 107 for the second wicket partnership. Skipper Gaikwad hammered 10 fours and three sixes, while Mitchell struck seven fours and one four. Furthermore, Shivam Dube (39*) also joined the party and carried the proceedings ahead. The southpaw batter scored at a strike rate of 195, hitting one four and four maximums. In the end, MS Dhoni also lit Chepauk with a boundary in the last over, taking the team to a total of 212/3.

While chasing, Aiden Markram (32) was the leading run-scorer for the visiting side, while the likes of Abhishek Sharma (15), Heinrich Klassen (20), and Abdul Samad (19) also scored a few runs. The unit kept losing wickets right from the start, which didn’t let SRH gain any momentum in the game.

While defending, the star bowler for the five-time champions was Tushar Deshpande. In just three overs, the 28-year-old bowler grabbed four wickets and just gave away 27 runs. Two wickets each were also scalped by Matheesha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman, while Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur also plucked one wicket each.

For SRH with the ball, one wicket each was taken by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, and Jaydev Unadkat

Ruturaj Gaikwad was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding batting show. Following this result, CSK have claimed their fifth win of the season and are now third on the points table.
