The much-anticipated clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 14, 2024, lived up to its billing as the “El Clasico” of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the IPL, recorded a massive 8.4 Television Rating (TVR) for the match, as per the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC).

CSK and MI are giants of the IPL, having won the coveted IPL trophy five times each. The Chennai-based team, the defending champions, emerged victorious in this thrilling encounter by 20 runs. The match witnessed a sensational last-over cameo from the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the first innings, while Rohit Sharma, struck a scorching century.

Disney Star‘s dominance in IPL viewership continued with this high-octane clash. According to a recent report from the BARC, the broadcaster has drawn a staggering 47.5 crore viewers for the first 34 matches of IPL 2024, resulting in 24,500 crore minutes of total viewing time. This immense viewership further underscores the IPL’s position as the biggest cricketing spectacle in the world.

To enhance the viewing experience for fans, Star India has partnered with data analytics company CricViz. This collaboration brings fresh perspectives to cricket analysis for the ongoing IPL 2024 and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Adding to the record-breaking viewership, JioCinema, the official digital streaming partner of the IPL, recorded a remarkable 71.5 crore viewers for the MI vs CSK clash. These figures showcase the growing popularity of digital streaming platforms in the Indian cricket ecosystem.
