In the second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, the finalists of the 2020 edition will take on each other. Mumbai Indians (MI) will face Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday, March 27 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai at 3:30 PM IST.
Mumbai Indians will march into the 2022 edition after an underwhelming 2021 outing where they failed to qualify for the playoffs. MI had a decent run in the first phase but couldn’t capitalise in the second phase in the UAE. Ahead of the season, the five-time champions have managed to retain their core – Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. Along with the experienced contenders, the Mumbai-based team has a couple of new overseas players. The team may not look well-equipped like their past years but they have the knack of getting the best out of their players.
On the other end, one of the consistent teams in the past few years, Delhi Capitals yet again missed out on the opportunity to win their maiden title last year after qualifying for the playoffs. Rishabh Pant was announced captain of the side in phase 1 following Shreyas Iyer‘s injury. Pant guided the team well throughout the season but fumbled in the final stages of the season. After retaining Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Notrje, DC managed to get hold of David Warner, Shardul Thakur and Mitchell Marsh in the mega auction. With an equal amount of experience and youth, DC looks like a force to reckon with ahead of the new season.

In the head-to-head competition between the two teams, MI slightly have the upper hand. The two teams collided on 30 occasions, Mumbai won 16 games while Delhi emerged victorious on 14 fixtures.
In the last outing between the two teams, DC won the game by six wickets.
