In the 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by four runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
GT won the toss and asked the home team to bat first. Prithvi Shaw (11) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (23) began the inning with some fireworks but lost their wickets soon in the powerplay. After losing two wickets quickly, Axar Patel (66), surprisingly at number three, controlled the inning and forwarded the scorecard. In the process, the left-handed batter scored an impressive fifty, which included five fours and four sixes. From the other end, Rishabh Pant (88*) also played a sublime knock, scoring a well-earned fifty, consisting of five fours and eight massive sixes. Both southpaw batters together added 113 runs for the fourth wicket partnership. Towards the end, Tristan Stubbs (26*) also smacked three fours and two sixes in the matter of seven deliveries, scoring at a strike rate of over 370. After getting bowled out in their last outing against GT for 89, this time the team posted a massive score of 224/4.
In the chase, Wriddhiman Saha (39) provided the visiting team with a great start and with him, Sai Sudharsan (65) also played a crucial role. Both batters scored 82 runs for the second wicket partnership, in which Sudharsan hit seven fours and two sixes. Furthermore, David Miller (55) also hammered a thunderous half-century off just 23 balls. Playing at a strike rate of 190, Rashid Khan (21*) was the final hope. Khan had to score 19 off the last over but only managed to hit 14 runs.
While defending, Rasikh Salam grabbed three wickets. Along with him, Kuldeep Yadav also took two wickets, whereas Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, and Axar Patel picked up one wicket.
Sandeep Warrier bagged three wickets in the first inning. With him, Noor Ahmad also additionally collected one wicket.
Rishabh Pant was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding batting and wicket-keeping brilliance. With this result, DC have won their fourth game of the season and are sixth on the points table.
