The 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will be the El Classico of the marquee T20 competition. The giants of the IPL, who are struggling in the ongoing season, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will go toe-to-toe against each other on Thursday, April 21 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai at 7:30 PM IST.
The five-time IPL champions are performing poorly throughout the commencement of the edition. Mumbai Indians have played six games so far and haven’t managed to win a single game yet. The lack of quality bowling along with the out of form batting line-up sums up IPL 2022 for the most successful IPL team. Rohit Sharma hasn’t managed to make significant contributions at the top, the MI skipper will look for a comeback with loads of runs coming from his willow. The Mumbai-based franchise will aim for registering two points on the board when they face their arch-rivals on Thursday. MI have acquired the 10th spot on the leaderboard.
On the other end, the defending champions are also going through the same fate as their Thursday opponent. After winning their maiden IPL 2022 game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the Ravindra Jadeja-led team failed to carry the momentum against Gujarat Titans (GT) as they lost by four wickets. CSK played six games and won just one fixture yet. The four-time IPL champions are also falling short of a good death bowler who could lower the run rate in slog overs. With two points, the Chennai-based team has occupied the ninth position.
In the head-to-head competition between the two teams, MI have the upper hand. The two franchises collided in 32 games, Mumbai won 19 matches while Chennai emerged victorious in 13 instances.
In the last outing between the two teams, CSK won the game by 20 runs.
