The former Indian cricketer, Suresh Raina turned 36 today i.e. November 27, 2022.
Suresh Raina surged to captain the Uttar Pradesh U-16s and gained importance among Indian selectors in 2002 when he was chosen for the U-19 tour to England at the age of 15 and a half years, where he found a pair of half-centuries in the U-19 Test matches.
Raina made his international debut on July 26, 2005, against Sri Lanka and immediately demonstrated his talent. The southpaw was also the second-youngest player to be named Indian captain. Raina’s contribution in the 2011 quarterfinal against Australia and the semifinal against Pakistan was a prime example of his big-game demeanour. Both were statistical cameos, but they were critically important.
Raina was the first Indian player to score a century in all three formats of the game, and while red-ball cricket wasn’t his favourite, his accomplishments in the other formats were significant for Indian cricket.
The 36-year-old has represented India in 18 Tests, 226 ODIs, and 78 T20Is. In ODI cricket, the left-handed batter scored 5,615 runs at an average of 35.31. He also secured 786 runs in Test cricket and 1604 runs in T20Is.
Raina was also the driving force behind Chennai Super Kings (CSK) success in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His darting left-handed style of play at No. 3 allowed CSK to strike at will with plenty of military capability left down the order. Raina’s benevolence in the IPL is attributed to the fact that he was the highest run-scorer for a long time.
Raina retired from all formats of international cricket on August 15, 2020. Furthermore, on September 6, 2022, he also stepped down from all forms of cricket, including IPL and domestic cricket.
