IPL 2021: BCB could do a u-turn on Shakib Al Hasan’s availability in IPL

Shakib Al Hasan denied claims about preferring IPL 2021 over the test series against Sri Lanka over the week. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had given him permission to participate in IPL 2021 but insisted that he had preferred to play IPL over test series. The all-rounder has been furious about these comments and insisted that he had been misinterpreted by the board.

Shakib had insisted that he never opted to skip the test series against Sri Lanka in April. The all-rounder had just sought permission to play in IPL to prepare for the upcoming T-20 World Cup in India later this year.

On the back of these comments, Cricbuzz has reported that BCB is now reconsidering Shakib al Hasan’s NOC for IPL 2021. If BCB only adds him to the test squad, then KKR will be without his services for few weeks. However, dismissing his NOC may spell bad news for KKR as Shakib will miss the entire season.

The Bangladeshi all-rounder returned to international cricket earlier this year after serving suspension imposed ICC for not following few guidelines of ICC’s anti-corruption code. KKR had spent Rs 3.2 crores on him, so it will be a big blow for the franchise during the tournament.

According to Cricbuzz, BCB will be making a final decision regarding Shakib’s case in the coming week. If his NOC is cancelled, then KKR will have to start looking for his replacement. He was expected to play a big role for KKR this season since his all-around abilities provide more impetus to the team’s batting and bowling. The Bangladeshi all-rounder had previously represented the franchise in IPL and played a key role in KKR’s two title-winning seasons last decade.
