Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours India vs Bangladesh: Skipper Shakib’s knock gets Bangladesh a consolation win

With this win, Bangladesh have bowed out of the competition with an impressive performance.

In the sixth match of the Asia Cup 2023 Super Fours stage, Bangladesh defeated India by six runs at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Team India won the toss and opted to bowl first. Bangladesh got off to a terrible start with the bat, as they lost three wickets in the powerplay itself. It was their skipper Shakib Al Hassan (80) who smashed an unbelievable half-century, which helped the Men in Green get back in the game. The number one ODI all-rounder played some bold shots which ensured Bangladesh reached a decent score. The southpaw batter scored six fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 94.12. Along with him, Towhid Hridoy (54) also smashed a decent half-century but couldn’t capitalise on it. Towards the end, Nasum Ahmed (44) and Mahedi Hasan (29) provided some valuable runs, which took Bangladesh to a score of 265/8.

In the chase, India got a shocker straightaway with Rohit Sharma‘s duck. Shubman Gill (122) hammered a thunderous century that included eight fours and five sixes. The right-handed batter played 44 overs and almost got India home. Axar Patel (42) was another batter who looked good but couldn’t bat till the end.

While defending, Mustafizur Rahman scalped three wickets, while two wickets each were grabbed by Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mahedi Hasan. Along with them, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Shakib Al Hassan also got one wicket each.

With the ball for India, Shardul Thakur scalped three wickets, while Mohammed Shami got two. One wicket each was also taken by Prasidh Krishna, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Shakib Al Hassan was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding batting effort. With this win, Bangladesh have bowed out of the competition with an impressive performance that will surely back them in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
