Viacom18 acquires Ligue 1 rights in India

The deal started with the pay television channel VH1 broadcasting the fixture between PSG and Reims.

Indian joint venture operation Viacom18 has announced its streaming rights deal with the Ligue 1 in India. 

The deal started with the pay television channel VH1 broadcasting Paris Saint-Germain vs Reims which was the debut for the Argentinian legend and PSG’s latest signing Lionel Messi

On Ligue 1’s website, Viacom18 and its channel Colors have been listed as the official broadcasters of the league in India, along with this TV5 Monde has also been listed as one of the broadcasters of the league in India and also includes Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan. 

Viacom18 has been really active in the business of sport broadcasting this season, as they have already landed deals with La Liga, Serie A, Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket and also the streaming rights of Ligue 1. 

These deals are bound to benefit Viacom18 considering the huge fanbase of all the major football competitions in India, this will provide for a better outreach for them in the market. 

Paris Saint-Germain currently stands at top of the Ligue 1 standings with 12 points in four games as they are closely followed by Angers who have ten points in four games. The signing of Lionel Messi from FC Barcelona has made them a serious contender for the UEFA Champions League title as well.  

The upcoming Ligue 1 fixture will be played between Lorient and Lille on Saturday at 12:30 AM IST at Stade Yves Allainment- Le Moustoir.
