Sony Pictures Networks bags media rights for India-Bangladesh series

The games will be broadcast in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on various Sony Sports Networks channels.

India’s top-most sporting network, Sony Pictures Networks (SPN), has acquired exclusive rights to telecast India’s tour of Bangladesh. The tournament which consists of two Tests and three ODIs will commence on December 4 and will run until December 26.

The games will be broadcast in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on various Sony Sports Networks channels. The same will also be streamed live on Sony’s OTT platform, SonyLIV.

ITW Sports Global, which originally owned the bi-lateral series rights, collaborated with its long-term partner Sony. In India, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) does not have a long-term official media rights collaborator.

The ITW-Sony alliance is being billed as the first of its kind in the sports broadcasting industry. For the series, the two firms will introduce simulated live brand integrations. The series’ rights holders anticipate 300 million viewers throughout TV and digital platforms.

Previously, Sony had renewed its media rights agreement with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for the Indian subcontinent until 2028. Furthermore, the broadcasting company also has rights to Sri Lanka Cricket, Pakistan Cricket Board, Bundesliga, UEFA, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
