Olympique Lyonnais sign Jerome Boateng on free transfer

Jerome Boateng played in 229 matches for Bayern Munich.

French club Olympique Lyonnais has signed the German international Jerome Boateng from Bayern Munich on a free transfer this summer window. The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner comes in with a ton of experience which will benefit the Ligue 1 club a lot.

Jerome Boateng spent ten seasons with the Bavarian giants having joined them way back in 2011 from Manchester City. In his time at the Allianz Arena, he has won the Bundesliga title on nine occasions and the UEFA Champions League twice. The most recent Champions League victory came against Paris Saint Germain in the 2019/20 final.

Boateng has been an integral part of the Bayern Munich team and forged a solid partnership with the Austrian defender David Alaba. However, he’s growing old now and Alaba also has joined Real Madrid CF.

“I want to give my best for this club. I am looking forward to meeting my team mates. This is a quality squad with young players, to which I can bring my experience,” said Jerome Boateng.

“I had received other offers, but it was important for me to have a good feeling about the club where I signed and to have a project to join.”
