Olympique de Marseille extends contract with Puma

Puma replaced rival Adidas as Marseille's kit supplier for the 2018-19 season.

The Ligue 1 club, Olympique de Marseille has announced the extension of their contract with the Germany-based sportswear brand Puma. The new deal will run until the end of the 2027-28 season.

Puma replaced rival Adidas as Marseille’s kit supplier for the 2018-19 season. In this agreement, the sportswear brand has become the club’s global technical supplier and official licensing partner in a deal valued around €15 million ($17 million) per season from 2018-19 to 2022-23.

Marseille’s chief marketing and revenue officer, Nathalie Zimmerman-Nénon, mentioned that the new contract is worth more than the current one, but she did not go into further details. The new deal will include Puma opening more club shops and manufacturing some club apparel from Marseille in the future.

Marseille President, Pablo Longoria, said, “We are very happy to continue this partnership with PUMA. At the Olympique de Marseille, football is the very essence of our existence. Since 2018, we have shared this vision together. We have therefore co-created an ambitious roadmap in order to continue our sporting reconquest and our anchoring in the city.”

Back in 2018, Olympique de Marseille chose Puma over Adidas for two main reasons. For starters, Puma promised to elevate the club to the level of Dortmund and Arsenal in international advertising campaigns. Second, Puma offered a five-year contract, whereas Adidas only offered a four-year contract.

The team on the field is going strong as they are currently sitting at the second position on the table. Paris Saint-Germain is comfortably holding the number one spot with 45 points, whereas Rennes at the third spot is just one point away from equalizing with Marseille. The club will look to seal the second spot before going for the Christmas break as they take on Reims on December 23 at home.
