The US sportswear brand, Nike has announced that they have terminated their ties with the Manchester United forward, Mason Greenwood, following the abuse allegations.
The sportswear giant which supplies the striker’s boots has expressed concern about the “disturbing” allegations levelled against him. They said in a statement that they have “suspended their relationship” with the footballer.
The statement further continued, “We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”
Moreover, the Premier League (PL) also announced that the youngster has been suspended from all duties until further notice, while an investigation was launched.
Greater Manchester Police also confirmed that they were investigating the alleged incident and had detained the footballer for questioning.
On the other hand, United issued a statement which said, “We are aware of images and allegations being circulated on social media. We will not comment further until the facts are established. Manchester United does not condone any form of violence.”
Manchester United is expected to continue paying Greenwood’s full salary during his suspension while all investigations are conducted.
Greenwood has been a member of the Manchester United squad since 2019 when he was promoted to the first team by the former manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
So far, Greenwood has made 129 appearances for the Red Devils and has netted 35 goals.
