The first 18 matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, televised live on the Disney Star network, drew in over 40 crore viewers, according to the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC). This was the largest cumulative reach for a live broadcast of 18 fixtures.
Additionally, the broadcaster amassed 12380 crore minutes of watch time—a 15% increase over the 2023 edition. In addition, there was a 17% increase in the TVR over the 2023 season.
The increase in viewers is a testament to the fans’ steadfast devotion to and support of the IPL on TV. Beginning on April 15, Star Sports will pay tribute to fans with a week-long celebration that will focus on the “Ajab fandom of IPL” and include a number of activities that showcase the unique ways each fan engages with their preferred teams and sport.
The introduction of Indian Sign Language Feed and AI technology in the IPL 2024 broadcasts has received great feedback, attracting a larger audience and creating a more accessible viewing experience. Shows like Cheeky Singles, starring Carry Minati, have increased the cash-rich league’s appeal by adding new perspectives and diverse content to the coverage. Star Sports hopes an immersive broadcast will make IPL 2024 a remarkable experience for everyone.
