BMW takes the wheel as title sponsor of Australia’s prestigious PGA Championship

The German luxury car giant, BMW has secured the title sponsorship of the Australian PGA Championship, solidifying its commitment to professional golf on a global scale.

The prestigious tournament will now be known as the “BMW Australian PGA Championship,” aligning it with other renowned BMW-backed events on the DP World Tour.

This strategic partnership has significantly expanded BMW’s presence in Australian golf. For over four decades, the brand has fostered partnerships with premier tournaments, solidifying its role as a leading patron of the sport.

Commenting on the association, Wolfgang Buechel, CEO BMW Australia, said, “BMW has had a longstanding involvement in golf around the world for over 40 years, and we are excited to extend our partnership with the Australian PGA for such a prestigious Australian tournament. From the US via Europe to Asia and now Australasia, you will find BMW wherever golf is played and enjoyed through all major markets worldwide. This is BMW’s first major golf naming rights partnership in the Southern Hemisphere and builds on our existing relationship as the official automotive partner of the PGA, Golf Australia and the WPGA.”

BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke) is a renowned German automaker known for its luxury vehicles and motorcycles. Founded in 1916, the company transitioned from aircraft engines to motorcycles and cars in the 1920s. Today, the German automaker is synonymous with high-performance, stylish sedans and SUVs, alongside its iconic motorcycles featuring the signature boxer engine design.

The inaugural BMW Australian PGA Championship will be held at the Royal Queensland Golf Club in Brisbane from November 21 to 24, 2024. This historic venue, also hosting the golf competition at the 2032 Olympic Games, provides a stunning backdrop for the tournament. As the opening event of the 2024/25 DP World Tour season, the championship is poised to attract a world-class field, including the return of defending champion Min Woo Lee.
