Serie A signs contract extension with TIM until 2024

Italy’s top division football league, Serie A has extended title sponsorship deal with TIM. The two last inked a three-year extension in 2018, but the new agreement assures that TIM’s name will be associated with the Italian league until 2024, bringing the partnership to 25 years. TIM’s new three-year arrangement also includes the eSerie A esports tournament and the Primavera youth competition, both of which will be sponsored by the firm’s TIMvision brand.

TIM and Lega Serie A are delighted with the extension of their cooperation, which is one of Europe’s longest-running football leagues in the sporting world. Special collaborations are also planned in honour of TIM’s centennial, which would be commemorated in 2023.

Moreover, according to a press statement, TIM will create a new chapter in the world of football by working to develop and use 5G technology that will help fans in experiencing all of the competition’s emotions up close and in a whole new way.

The agreement’s financial terms were not released, but the last deal was around €15 million (US$18.3 million) each year. TIM has also vowed to provide new 5G innovations to improve the audience engagement for Italian football fans. The two parties have agreed to step up their efforts to combat piracy as part of the new partnership. TIM and Lega Serie A also agreed to continue and strengthen their efforts to prevent television piracy as part of the extended agreement.

TIM has also agreed to contribute €1 billion (US$1.2 billion) to DAZN’s purchase of the primary package of Italian Serie A rights.  The sports streaming monthly subscription and TIM have agreed on a content delivery and tech support package that would see the latter pay around €340 million (US$414 million) each year, or around 40% of the entire €2.5 billion (US$3 billion) rights package.
