SLC delays the start of Lanka Premier League

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) decided to readjust the commencement date of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) to ensure that the participating players have time to satisfy the quarantine guidelines of the Sri Lankan government.

The commencement of the LPL which was earlier scheduled to start on 14 November 2020, has now been shifted to 21st November 2020. Moreover, the Player Draft of the tournament, earlier scheduled to take place on 1 October, has now been shifted to 9th October.

Along with meeting quarantine guidelines, this decision was taken to allow players involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to be ready for LPL.

Mr. Ravin Wickramaratne, Lanka Premier League Director said, “Since the IPL will go until the 10th of November, we thought to keep some space for the players taking part in the IPL, and who wish to make it to the LPL to take part in the tournament.”

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan admitted that no Bangladeshi player would be granted with No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in the LPL. This decision arrived on the back of a fallout of the eventual postponement of the Test series between the two nations over COVID-19 regulations.
