Following this deal, Starr Insurance has been labelled as the signature partner of the Yankees, its first-ever jersey patch sponsor and the official presenting sponsor of the Yankees game-day line-up post on social media.
Starr Insurance has been a Yankees sponsor since 2018, with the current agreement linking the firms together until 2031.
The agreement calls for the Starr logo on the Yankee Stadium outfield wall in front of both teams’ bullpens, in addition to the current signage above the right-field stands. Starr is also going to collaborate more closely with the New York Yankees Foundation to develop community programmes.
On July 21, when the Yankees host the Kansas City Royals, the Starr Insurance logo will make its debut on team apparel.
Since clubs were given permission to sell the jersey patch asset a year ago as a result of alterations in the new league-wide collective bargaining contract, the Yankees became the thirteenth MLB team to announce a jersey patch deal.
They join a long list of other teams who have jersey patch partners, including the Cleveland Guardians, Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Miami Marlins, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, Arizona Diamondbacks, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds.
Yankees Managing General Partner, Hal Steinbrenner, said, “Having had Starr as an insurance carrier of ours for the last decade and having worked closely with their leadership team as part of our pre established partnership, it is clear that Starr is the right company to embark with on this landmark relationship. There were many aspects of Starr that aligned with our organisation, including their century-plus history, significant New York presence, worldwide reach and unparalleled commitment to the community.”
Maurice Greenberg, Starr Chairman and Chief Executive, commented, “Starr and the Yankees, one of the world’s most widely recognised professional sports teams, share important values — including a commitment not just to teamwork and winning, but to excellence in how we do business and serve a broad range of constituencies.”
