IPL 2024 MI vs SRH: Match preview, head-to-head and streaming details

Historically, MI hold a slight edge of 12 wins to SRH's 10 in a head-to-head battle.

The 55th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 sees Mumbai Indians (MI) lock horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, tonight, at 7:30 PM IST.

MI enter this match on a four-game losing streak, languishing at the bottom of the table. In contrast, SRH are set to march in with a morale-boosting win against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and sit comfortably in fourth place.

A high-scoring affair isn’t out of the question as the encounter earlier this season in Hyderabad saw SRH post a mammoth total of 278 against MI.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have provided Mumbai with solid starts throughout the tournament. However, recent matches have seen their struggles to translate early promise into substantial scores. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma have displayed consistency in the middle overs, but skipper Hardik Pandya‘s batting form remains a major concern. A string of low scores calls for him to step up and lead from the front.

Jasprit Bumrah, with a tournament-leading 17 wickets, has been a lone bright spark for Mumbai’s bowling attack, ably supported by Gerald Coetzee (13 wickets). Nuwan Thushara has impressed with breakthroughs in the powerplay of late. Against a potent SRH batting lineup, these three pacers hold the key to restricting the visitors on a batting-friendly Wankhede track.

The Orange Army boasts one of the most explosive opening partnerships in the league, with Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma consistently blazing at the top. Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy provide further firepower in the middle overs. However, their reliance on an aggressive approach has exposed vulnerability when it falters. The visitors need to devise strategies for a more adaptable batting display with a playoff berth within reach.

T Natarajan (15 wickets) and Pat Cummins (12 wickets) have been Hyderabad’s bowling pillars, delivering impactful spells in the middle and death overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar provides early breakthroughs, but spin bowling remains a chink in their armour. Mayank Markande (eight wickets) and Shahbaz Ahmed (three wickets) have leaked runs at a high economy, an area SRH will be keen to address.

Head-to-Head:

Historically, Mumbai holds a slight edge of 12 wins to Hyderabad’s 10 in a head-to-head battle. However, the home team enjoys a significant advantage at the Wankhede Stadium, winning five out of seven encounters against the tourists.

This encounter promises to be a thrilling clash between two contrasting teams, with MI seeking to salvage some pride and SRH aiming to solidify their playoff position.
