Viacom18 nets digital rights; IPL media rights touch INR 48,390 crore

Disney Star has retained Package A (TV rights) for a sum of INR 23,575 crore.

The Reliance-backed Viacom18 has also acquired digital rights for INR 23,758 crore. Package D, which includes international TV rights for all territories except the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is also sold for INR 1057 crore to Times Internet.

Following a three-day bidding war, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah officially unveiled the winning bidders on Tuesday evening via his official Twitter handle.

While speaking about the revenue generated through the IPL media rights auction, Shah said, “The BCCI will utilize the revenue generated from IPL to strengthen our domestic cricket structure starting from grassroots, to boost infrastructure and spruce up facilities across India and enrich the overall cricket-watching experience.”

Disney Star has retained TV rights in the Indian subcontinent, Package A, for a sum of INR 23,575 crore (INR 57.5 crore per game). The total value of IPL media rights has reached INR 48,390 crore.

Likewise, Package B, which included digital rights, was purchased by Viacom18 for INR 50 crore per game.
