IPL 2021: Michael Vaughan urges CSK to build team around Ravindra Jadeja

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that Ravindra Jadeja is the ideal person to take up CSK’s captaincy after MS Dhoni. This may not be Dhoni’s last season, but the team needs to start prepping for the future.

In a video posted on the website of Cricbuzz, Vaughan said, “So you’ve got to start looking at who you can build a team around and to me, Ravindra Jadeja is the kind of cricketer that I would build my team around. I just think he’s that good with the ball, in the field, with the bat in hand, his mindset, his mentality is very good.”

According to former England captain, Jadeja’s abilities as an all-rounder make him odds on favourite for being skipper as he can bat in the top four, and also open the bowling depending on the opposition along with being a terrific fielder. Vaughan admitted that Jadeja can be sent in early to bat or can be used to open bowling or be put in key fielding positions based on what team they are playing against.

Jadeja, took four catches and turned the game between CSK and Rajasthan Royals on its head on Monday. He took two important wickets of Jos Buttler and Shivam Dube in one single over to tilt the game in CSK’s favour. He has been an integral part of the CSK since 2012.

Curran shouldn’t be burdened with leadership responsibilities

The English captain also insisted that Sam Curran could be an important player for CSK while going forward. He believes that Curran is not ready to lead a team, and his qualities shine when he goes under the radar.

After leading a highly disappointing performance in IPL 2020, CSK has made a strong start to IPL 2021. After winning two out of three games until now, CSK is currently at second position in the points table with the highest run rate (+1.19) of all teams. They play their next match against KKR on Wednesday at Wankhede Stadium.
