IPL 2021: David Warner takes responsibility for defeat against CSK

Sunrisers Hyderabad is enduring a horrific season as they sit at the bottom of the table with only one win in IPL 2021. Although the team obviously needs to make some changes and put their best foot forward in the second half of the season.

SRH lost their last game by seven wickets to Chennai Super Kings. While talking about the defeat against CSK in post-match interview on Wednesday, SRH captain David Warner has blamed himself for his side’s seven-wicket defeat against CSK. The free-scoring Australian opener was highly critical of his own performance saying he takes responsibility for the loss despite having scored his 57 in 55 balls as the struggling Sunrisers made 3-171 off their 20 overs.

“I take full responsibility for the way I batted, I batted slow and hit the fielders. I probably hit 15 good shots to fielders and they are the ones that make or break the innings. I took too many balls.”

While it was Warner’s second fifty of IPL 2021, him using up too many balls has reduced his strike rate to 110.28, which is by some distance below his overall strike rate in his IPL career (140.13).  Warner has not been able to start well with the bat this season. More often than not, the Hyderabad skipper has gone into a shell in fear of losing wickets. Despite notching two fifty-plus scores, the dashing opener hasn’t been at his fluent best.

Warner also added that his team fought till the end and that the orange army is a bunch of fighters and they need to be positive after enduring a poor start to the campaign. SRH needs to go on a long winning run to qualify for the playoffs as they currently sit at the bottom of the table with two points. They need at least 12 more points to have a chance of playing in the knockout rounds.
