In the third ODI match of the South Africa tour of India 2022, India defeated South Africa by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and elected to bowl first. In one of the best bowling performances, Kuldeep Yadav was the major contributor along with Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj and co. An exceptional bowling display restricted the Proteas to just 99 runs in 27 overs.
While chasing, captain Dhawan got out cheaply in the seventh over itself but India had a huge lineup to recover from this early blow. Shubman Gill (49) from the other end played till the end of the inning and made sure that India secure the ODI series. The right-handed opener smashed eight fours and that too with ease. After Gill lost his wicket, Shreyas Iyer (28*) took the proceedings forward and hammered three fours and two sixes in his short but quick innings.
In the first innings, no one could bat decent enough for the visitors and hence, got all out on 99. Heinrich Klassen (34) was the only batter who batted respectfully and was stubborn enough to give away his wicket cheaply. Janneman Malan (15) and Marco Jansen (14) were the other batsmen who also contributed a few runs. Other than these, the whole batting card looked like a phone number.
Kuldeep Yadav was magical once again for the Men in Blue as he registered a four-wicket haul in just four overs. With him, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj and Shahbaz Ahmed also bagged two wickets each.
For SA, one wicket each were taken by Bjorn Fortuin and Lungi Ngidi.
Kuldeep Yadav was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling. Following this victory, India have sealed the ODI series by 2-1.
