India vs England 4th Test: Virat Kohli create records as the visitors thrash the hosts at The Oval

India leads the series by 2-1.

In the 4th Test match of the India tour of England series, the visitors emerged victorious as the hosts fell short of the massive target by 157 runs on the final day of the game. Following the emphatic victory, India goes 2-1 up in the five-match bilateral series against England. With this historic win, the Indian skipper got a few records to his name.

1. First Asian captain to win multiple Test matches in Australia and England

Winning a Test match in countries like Australia and England is a big achievement for a captain of an Asian country, considering the massive differences in the playing condition. Virat Kohli becomes the first Asian skipper to claim multiple Test victories in Australia and England. The first victory came in the India tour of England 2018 at Trent Bridge. India under Kohli’s captaincy grabbed two victories in the series down under in 2018/19. The Men in Blue beat the Aussies in the first and third Test at Adelaide and Melbourne respectively.

In the ongoing series, the Indian team captained by Kohli beat England twice. The first victory came in the second Test at Lord’s while the second win came at The Oval. 

2. First Indian captain to register three Test victories in England

Virat Kohli goes past Kapil Dev to become the first Indian captain to register three Test victories in England. Kohli got his first Test victory as a captain in the third Test of the India tour of England 2018, where the tourists beat the hosts by a margin of 203 runs. 

In the previous month, India beat England at the Lord’s in the second Test match of the ongoing series by a mammoth 151 runs, registering their only third Test victory at the mecca of cricket. In the fourth Test match, the Indian team acquired the lead of 2-1 after emerging victorious by 157 runs at The Oval.
