Virat Kohli becomes the second Indian captain to register multiple Test victories in England

Kapil Dev was the first Indian skipper to win multiple Tests in England as a skipper.

Virat Kohli’s team India lodged its third victory at the mecca of cricket in the longest format of the game. India beat England by 151 runs in the second Test match of the five-match Test series to go 1-0 up in the highly anticipated bilateral series. With this victory, Virat Kohli becomes the only second Indian captain to register multiple victories in the longest format in England after Kapil Dev.

Former Indian cricketer and world cup winning captain Kapil Dev was the first Indian skipper to win more than one Test match in England as a captain. He achieved this magnificent milestone in the India tour of the England Test series in 1986, where the visitors won the bilateral series 2-0. The English welcomed India for a three-match Test series. With the first match being played at the Lord’s, the tourists beat England by five wickets while chasing 136, Dev was adjudged the Man of the Match. The second game of the series was played at Headingley, India registered a mammoth victory of 279 runs to claim the series.

India’s current captain Virat Kohli became the only captain on Monday after Dev to win multiple Test matches in England. India’s first Test victory under Kohli’s captaincy came in the third Test match of the India tour of England series in 2018. The tourists beat the hosts by a margin of 203 runs with the 32-year-old cricketer was awarded the Man of the Match trophy. Kohli’s second victory in England as a skipper came in the ongoing Test series where India beat England by 151 runs in the second Test to gain a lead of 1-0 in the five-match Test series. KL Rahul was the player of the match for his scintillating century in the first innings.

The third fixture of the Test series will start on August 25 at Headingley in Leeds.
