India tour of West Indies 2023 3rd ODI: Batters power Men in Blue to win by 200 runs; clinch ODI series

India secured their biggest-ever win against WI following this result and also clinched the series by 2-1.

In the third ODI match of the India tour of West Indies 2023, India defeated West Indies by 200 runs at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.

West Indies won the toss and opted to field first. After a dreadful show in the second ODI with the bat, team India had a comolete turnaround performance as they started the innings on a high note with both openers, Ishan Kishan (77) and Shubman Gill (85), scoring big fifties. The opening duo posted 143 runs for the first wicket partnership. While Gill hammered 11 fours, Kishan hit eight fours and three sixes. Moreover, after few quite middle overs, Sanju Samson (51) shifted gears and slammed four massive sixes and two fours. Skipper Hardik Pandya (70*) also joined the party and hit an unbeaten half-century which included four fours and five sixes. Pandya also got some support from the other end from Suryakumar Yadav (35) towards the end which helped the Men in Blue to reach 351 runs in 50 overs.

While chasing, WI had a terrible outing yet again as they got bundled for just 151 runs. Alick Athanaze (32) was the only top order batter to score in double digits. Yannic Cariah (19), who batted at no. eight scored few runs while Alzarri Joseph also maintained the partnership. Gudakesh Motie (39*) was the top scorer for WI who also looked stable throughout his knock.

While defending, the visitors succefully restricted the home side in just 35.3 overs courtesy some exceptional bowling acts. Shardul Thakur claimed four wickets while Mukesh Kumar grabbed three wickets. Kuldeep Yadav continued his top form and got two wickets. Meanwhile, Jaydev Unadkat also finally registered a wicket in the Caribbean Island.

For WI with the ball, Romario Shepherd got two wickets. Along with him, Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Motie and Yannic Cariah scalped one wicket each.

Shubman Gill was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding batting performance. India secured their biggest-ever win (by runs) against West Indies following this result and also clinched the series by 2-1.
