Global Chess League unveils franchise logos and team jerseys

The Global Chess League (GCL), the world’s premier chess competition, released the franchise logos and team jerseys at Phoenix Marketcity in Kurla, Mumbai, as part of the chess celebrations prior to the first edition, which will begin in Dubai on June 21 and run until July 2.

In an enormous gathering attended by many chess fans, the teams – Ganges Grandmasters, SG Alpine Warriors, Balan Alaskan Knights, Chingari Gulf Titans, upGrad Mumba Masters, and Triveni Continental Kings unveiled their team logos and jerseys as a follow-up to the Global Chess League drafts held last week in Mumbai.

With the popularity and growing interest in chess, we as a group have been actively supporting it by virtue of our various associations and other organizations, as well as hosting numerous chess events at all our centers. Phoenix Malls have partnered with Tech Mahindra for their Global Chess League tournament as the ‘Official Mall Partners’ for India.

The event was arranged and managed by Phoenix Group, which has been named the Global Chess League’s official mall partner for the next three years.

As part of the deal, in the run-up to the GCL, Phoenix Group will hold two-day events in five cities, comprising Mumbai, Pune, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Indore. In addition, Phoenix Group will throw watch parties in Mumbai and Pune for the league’s grand final on July 2, 2023.

Furthermore, the event also saw digitised team jerseys displayed over the Phoenix Marketcity’s LED walls.

The annual league will use an innovative mixed-team structure in which each of the six franchises will play a total of 10 matches in a double round-robin style, with the winner of each match determined by a best-of-six board scoring system played concurrently. The top two teams will advance to the final, which will be held on July 2, 2023.
