Nine football clubs were featured in the 2021 Forbes list of the most valuable sports teams in the world, which was dominated by the National Football League (NFL) franchises. However, there are as many football clubs as basketball teams, while there are only six representing baseball.
The sporting world had to face heavy monetary losses due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic but the average value of the 50 most valuable sports teams has jumped 9.9% from last year to $3.4 billion, up 55% from five years ago. The Dallas Cowboys once again claim the top spot with a valuation of $5.7 billion, followed by the New York Yankees at $5.25 billion.
Despite their financial problems La Liga giants FC Barcelona are the most football team in the world, followed by their rivals Real Madrid at a close second. Forbes on Monday released the World’s Most Valuable Sports Team in which the two Spanish clubs found themselves in the top five.
The Blaugranas was valued at $4.76bn, while Los Blancos at $4.75bn. Overall they are fourth and fifth respectively in the list and were the only two football clubs in the top 5.
German club Bayern Munich is the third most valuable football team with a value of around $4.21billion while being 10th on the overall list. The club has seen 57% rise in Value over last five years surpassing English Giants Manchester United who is in the 11th position.
