BBL 2020/2021: Sydney Sixers complete the signing of Jason Holder

After an enthralling Women’s Big Bash League, the attention in Australia turns to the men’s T-20 tournament in the next couple of months. Teams have started preparations for the tournament as they continue to recruit international players. Sydney Sixers are the latest team to welcome a new arrival as they reach an agreement with Jason Holder for the season.

The West Indies all-rounder has signed a deal that will see him play three T-20 games during the tournament. Holder is expected to join the squad in the final third of December. He is currently with the West Indies squad for the two-match test series in New Zealand.

Holder becomes the fourth foreign acquisition for Sydney Sixers. He will be joined by his compatriot Carlos Braithwaite, while Tom Curran and James Vince will take up other slots in the squad. Moises Henrique will be the skipper of Sydney Sixer during the 2020/21 campaign. Sydney Sixers are currently the defending champions in the Big Bash League (BBL).

Sydney Sixers will get a nice balance in the lineup due to the presence of Holder. He played a big role for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second half of the Indian Premier League 2020, helping them to qualify for playoffs. Holder can make handy contributions in the middle order. In the bowling department, he cleverly varies his pace to get breakthroughs at crucial junctures of the innings. He ended up with 14 wickets in seven games during IPL 2020.

The BBL is set to kick off on December 10 with the game between Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes in Hobart. After completing the league phase in December and January, the knockout rounds are set to take place in the first week of February. Most of the teams will be without big Australian players during December and the first half of January as they will be involved in the test series against India.
