Adidas halts operation of stores, online shopping in Russia

The brand also announced that the employees in Russia will be paid even if stores are closed.

The German sportswear company, Adidas has halted operations in Russia, including its stores and online shopping site, until further notice.

Adidas is also donating 1 million euros ($1.09 million) to refugee and children’s charities, as well as clothing to the Global Aid Network for people in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, according to the company.

The brand also announced that the employees in Russia will be paid even if stores are closed.

Adidas also ended its partnership with the Russian Football Union last week, following a string of decisions by sports organisations to conclude ties with the Russian companies. Since 2008, the German company has produced the country’s kit. As the death toll in Eastern Europe rises, the brand has put its deal with the Russian football national team on hold.

Adidas’ decision to cancel the kit sponsorship contract came after Manchester United announced the termination of its partnership with the Russian airline company, Aeroflot.
