The inaugural season of WPL, which has already made significant financial gains, has also roped in numerous sponsors for the inaugural edition.

The first edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is all set to commence today i.e. March 4 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, India.

The competition will feature 22 matches, with each team playing eight games, as well as a playoff-style elimination round between the teams that finish second and third, with the first-place team moving on directly to the finals.

Together with two brand-new franchises – Gujarat Giants (GG) and UP Warriorz (UPW) and three current Indian Premier League (IPL) teams such as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Mumbai Indians (MI) will be vying to be the inaugural WPL champion.

In what is hailed as a competition that will change the game for female cricketers around the world, all five teams have named their individual captains and are prepared to take the field. Captains, Beth Mooney and Harmanpreet Kaur will once again rekindle their rivalry, which was renewed during the T20 World Cup semifinal, as GG and MI square off in the curtain-raiser.
