Roger Binny becomes new BCCI president

Binny became the 36th president of the national cricket governing body.

The former Indian cricketer and member of the historic 1983 World Cup-winning team, Roger Binny, has been announced as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

With this development, the former bowling all-rounder became the 36th president of the national cricket governing body. The 67-year-old’s appointment was unveiled at the BCCI AGM in Mumbai on Tuesday. Binny replaced the former Indian skipper and prolific top-order batter, Sourav Ganguly. Binny was the sole candidate to have filed a nomination for the topmost position of the richest cricket board.

The next set of office-bearers, the secretary, Jay Shah, Ashish Shelar (treasurer), Rajeev Shukla (vice-president) and Devajit Saikia (joint secretary) will retain their positions as all are set to be elected unopposed. Binny will also vacate his position as the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). He was also a member of the senior selection committee in the past. Arun Dhamal is set to become the new chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after Ganguly turned down the offer.

The pacer from Bengaluru was also one of the MVPs of India’s maiden world cup glory. He pocketed 18 wickets and was the highest wicket-taker of that particular edition.
