The Indian Super League (ISL) reigning champions, Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) have inked sponsorship ties with a scooter manufactured by Honda, the Honda Dio.
Following this development, the brand has been named the associate partner of the club for the ongoing season. The team announced the arrangement on its social media platforms, with the caption, “We are delighted to announce @honda2wheelerin as our new associate partner!”
As part of the association, MBSG players will feature the brand’s logo on the right sleeve of their jerseys.
Honda Dio is a scooter made in India by Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India. It is being constructed in the Narsapura factory in Karnataka. It was released in 2001 and reached the 30 lakh sales mark in 2019. The Dio is also sold to Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Latin America in addition to the home market. In the European market, a rebadged variant is known as the Honda Lead.
Prior to this deal, the club also added 1xBat Sporting Lines and Limca Sportz to its sponsorship portfolio.
MBSG, the defending Indian top-flight champions and hot favourites to win this season as well, are coming off a run of triumphs, notably in the AFC Cup group stage against Odisha FC and the coveted Durand Cup 2023, which they won by defeating their arch-rival, East Bengal FC in the finals. The side will commence its ISL 2023–24 journey against the debutant Punjab FC, tonight at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata.
