Mitsubishi Electric becomes title sponsor of AFF Championship

The 14th edition of ASEAN's football tournament has been renamed the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022.

The ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Football Federation (AFF) has announced that Mitsubishi Electric has been appointed as the new title sponsor of the AFF Championship. Earlier the AFF Championship was known as AFF Suzuki Cup.

AFF Championship is a biannual multinational association football tournament in which the men’s national squads of the AFF compete to determine the Southeast Asian sub-continental champion. Except for 2007, and 2020, the competition has always been held every two years since 1996 in even years (which was postponed to 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic).

The 14th edition of ASEAN’s most renowned football tournament, which is set to begin in December, has been renamed the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022.

Mitsubishi Electric will have an exclusive right to label the tournament and then use the championship event trademark and special recognition across all of its advertising channels and assets as the primary sponsor of the event.

This association is just an extension of Mitsubishi Electric’s ambitions to solidify connections among players, fans, and all stockholders to develop a feeling of togetherness in order to achieve a successful tournament and support the development of the geographical area, with the tagline ‘Together, we can build better’. Furthermore, as a broad electrical hardware maker, Mitsubishi Electric aspires to increase its operations in the fast-growing Southeast Asia region, and also assist in the region’s continued growth by offering a wide range of goods, services, and technological assistance.

Mitsubishi Electric will also be able to deliver the championship’s Most Valuable Player Award, as well as participate in numerous online and on-site activations including the Player Escort Program as well as the Trophy Tour.

The brand will also gain enormous regional recognition by appearing on official tournament documentation, the event’s internet channels, in-stadium TV ads, outdoor hoardings, and product endorsements in each and every stadium where games are staged.

Kunihiko Seki, Corporate Executive and Chief Representative Asia Pacific Region of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, said, “As the world starts to re-open after two difficult years, we are excited to become the title sponsor of the AFF Championship and support AFF’s vision in bringing this unique event to the next level. For over 50 years, Mitsubishi Electric has supplied various products, ranging from home electronics to industrial and commercial equipment, to the Asia Pacific region. Today, we continue to work towards our goal of contributing to society by realizing a sustainable global environment. We are looking forward to build a better future together with the AFF. We hope we can bring excitement and joy to many people through this sponsorship.”

AFF President, Major General Khiev Sameth, stated, “I am extremely pleased to have Mitsubishi Electric on board with us as the new title sponsor. As the AFF Championship enters its 14th edition, we must continue to innovate and break new ground to meet tomorrow’s challenges. The objective to further develop and shape the future of regional football – through the platform of the AFF Championship – is at the heart of Mitsubishi Electric’s mission. This landmark partnership will herald in a new era for the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup and I have great optimism that we can propel the tournament to new heights and further lift football in the region together.”
