In the 13th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 20 runs at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
DC skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bat first. The innings began on a high note as both openers, David Warner (52) and Prithvi Shaw (42), batter aggressively and built a 93-run partnership for the first wicket partnership. Making his comeback, Shaw hit four fours and two sixes, while Warner hit five fours and three sixes. Along with them, the innings was further bolstered by Pant’s (51) blistering knock which helped the side to reach 191/5. Mitchell Marsh (18) also added few runs in the end.
In the chase, the side suffered a collapse at the start of the innings as it lost both openers in three overs. Ajinkya Rahane (45) and Darly Mitchell (34) rescued the side with their gracious knocks but couldn’t bat longer. Ravindra Jadeja (21*) and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni (37*) also tried their best till the end but unfortunately the target was quite unreachable.
Khaleel Ahmed was lethal with the ball for the Delhi-based side as he plucked two wickets right at the start of the innings. Mukesh Kumar also grabbed three vital wickets in the middle overs while Axar Patel also grabbed a piece.
Matheesha Pathirana displayed exceptional bowling act tonight as he plucked three wickets at an economy rate of 7.8. Mustafizur Rahman and Ravindra Jadeja also bagged one wicket each.
Following this win, DC have won their first match of the season.
