IPL 2023 KKR vs SRH: Harry Brook’s century helps SRH win at Eden Gardens

Following this win, SRH have registered their second win of the season and are now seventh on the points table.

In the 19th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 23 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

KKR won the toss and as expected elected to bowl first. Though it was an obvious decision, it backfired the two-time IPL winners as SRH batters were on fire. It started with Harry Brook (100*) who smoked a smashing century at a strike rate of over 180. In his knock, the Englishman struck 12 fours and three sixes. Towards the end of the inning, skipper Aiden Markram (50) also smashed a quick-fire fifty which took SRH to an over-par score of 228 runs. Along with Markram, Abhishek Sharma (32) and Heinrich Klassen (16) also contributed valuable runs.

In the second innings, while chasing, N Jagadeesan (36) gave an excellent start to KKR but couldn’t capitalise on it. Skipper Nitish Rana (75) showed his form yet again and hammered bowlers all around the park. Towards the end, fans invested their trust in Rinku Singh (58*) and he was just a few runs away from delivering it. The southpaw batter hit a fifty but failed to take KKR home.

While defending, Mayank Markande and Marco Jansen picked up two wickets each. One wicket each was also taken by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan and Umran Malik.

For KKR with the ball, Andre Russell bagged three wickets while Varun Chakaravarthy also managed to pick a wicket.

Harry Brook was adjudged Player of the Match for his electrifying century with the bat. Following this win, SRH have registered their second win of the season and are now seventh on the points table.
