In the 51st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 56 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
LSG skipper Krunal Pandya won the toss and asked GT to bat first. It was a mind-boggling start to the Gujarat-based side as both the opening batters, Wriddhiman Saha (81) and Shubman Gill (94*), smashed an unbelievable half-century. While Saha began hitting right from the ball one, Gill opted to act as an anchor. Both the openers added massive 142 runs for the first wicket partnership in which Saha hit 10 fours and four sixes and Gill hammered two fours and seven sixes. It is also fair to speculate that the final score would have exceeded 250 if Saha hadn’t been taken out in the 13th over. Nonetheless, towards the end, Hardik Pandya (25) and David Miller (21*) also contributed a few quick-fire runs which took GT to a score of 227 runs.
In the chase, even the LSG openers got off to a good start. Both batters, Kyle Mayers (48) and Quinton de Kock (70), smashed bowlers all around the park in the powerplay and it looked like the match will go down the wire. However, no other batter certainly got any runs which eventually led to their downfall. Ayush Badoni (21) was the only other batter to score a few runs at the backend of the innings.
While defending, Mohit Sharma acquired four wickets in his quota of four overs. One wicket each was also scalped by Mohammad Shami, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad.
On the other hand, the visitors only managed to pick up two wickets in the first innings. Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan grabbed one wicket each for LSG.
Following this win, GT have now 16 points and are first on the points table.
