In the 64th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 17 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
Mayank Agarwal won the toss and asked Delhi Capitals to bat first. Sarfaraz Khan (32) was promoted to bat up the order with David Warner and he did not disappoint. With the strike rate of 200, the right-handed batsman smashed a few boundaries upfront which gave DC a boost in the powerplay. Along with him, Mitchell Marsh (64) also hammered bowlers all around the park. The Aussie batsman scored a brilliant fifty which helped the Delhi based franchise to reach a respectable score. In the end, decent contributions from Lalit Yadav (24) and Axar Patel (17*) took Delhi to a score of 159/7 in 20 overs. These many runs were not enough considering the pitch was quite helpful for the batters.
In the chase, the Punjab based team got off to a flying start once again as Shikhar Dhawan (19) and Jonny Bairstow (28) scored 38 runs for the first wicket partnership. Punjab was decent in the powerplay but soon after they started losing too many wickets at regular intervals. Jitesh Sharma (44) was the lone warrior in the second innings as he tried his best to take PBKS home. Rahul Chahar (25*) also helped Punjab with a few runs, but it wasn’t enough. The Mayank Agarwal-led side was restricted to just 142/9 in 20 overs.
