IPL 2022 LSG vs MI: KL Rahul’s century guides Lucknow Super Giants to another victory

Following this victory, LSG gathered 10 points and have acquired the fourth spot on the leaderboard.

In the 37th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 36 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma asked LSG to bat first. Once again the opening combo of KL Rahul (103*) and Quinton de Kock (10) started the innings beautifully. Though the latter got out early, he was looking in fine touch. At the strike rate of 166.13, Captain Rahul score his second century of IPL 2022. The right-handed opener smashed twelve 4’s and four 6’s in his inning to take LSG to a massive score. In the middle overs, he got a bit of help from Manish Pandey (22) and in the end from Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni (14). These little contributions helped the captain to take the total to 168/6 in 20 overs. It was an under-par score and with due coming in, defending such a score was difficult.

Chasing 169, this was a total Mumbai would have hoped to chase that too at their fortress Wankhede. MI were playing at their home after almost over 1000 days but it didn’t change their fortunes. Ishan Kishan continued to struggle while Rohit Sharma (39) finally got some runs under his belt. Tilak Verma (38) was the only other batter to look in great touch but the inexperienced batsman was all alone in the chase. Kieron Pollard (19) was the only hope for MI supporters but it didn’t turn out how they would have liked. In the end, Mumbai Indians only got to 132/8 in 20 overs.

Former Mumbai Indians player, Krunal Pandya scalped three wickets in his quota of four overs. Mohsin Khan, Jason Holder, Ravi Bishnoi and Badoni got one wicket each as well.
For MI, two wickets each for Pollard and Riley Meredith. Jasprit Bumrah and Daniel Sams also got one wicket each.

KL Rahul was adjudged Man of the Match for his excellent batting show at the Wankhede Stadium. After some failures at the iconic stadium, the LSG captain will finally be satisfied with this performance. Following this victory, LSG gathered 10 points and have acquired the fourth spot on the leaderboard.

Scorecard:

Lucknow Super Giants: 168/6, Overs 20, KL Rahul 103*, Kieron Pollard 2/8

Mumbai Indians: 132/8, Overs 20, Rohit Sharma 39, Krunal Pandya 3/19
