IPL 2022 KKR vs MI: Match preview, head-to-head and sponsors

In the last outing between the two teams earlier this season, KKR won by five wickets.

In the 56th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Mumbai Indians (MI) will collide with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the second time in the season. The fixture will take place on Monday, May 9 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai at 7:30 PM IST.

It’s too late for the five-time champions to make a comeback in the ongoing edition but signing off with multiple victories might create momentum for the next season. Coming on the back of two consecutive victories, Mumbai Indians will aim for their third victory in a row. After beating the number one team on the points table, Gujarat Titans (GT), in a last-ball thriller, MI will walk into their next game with full confidence. The inclusion of Tim David certainly provides depth in the team’s batting line-up. The Mumbai-based team has occupied the 10th spot with four points to their name.

Kolkata Knight Riders started the season really well under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, but couldn’t manage to maintain the rhythm. Before winning their previous game, the Knight Riders were on a five-match losing streak. The inconsistent opening pair along with the struggling bowling unit has been the biggest concern for the two-time IPL winners. KKR have to win their remaining fixtures to stand a chance of qualifying for the playoffs. The Kolkata franchise has acquired the eighth position with eight points.

Head-to-head:
MI dominates KKR in the head-to-head competition. The two teams have played against each other on 30 occasions, Mumbai won 22 games while Kolkata emerged victorious on eight instances.

In the last outing between the two teams earlier this season, KKR won by five wickets.
