India vs South Africa 2nd ODI: Shreyas Iyer powers India to level the series 1-1

Following this win, India have levelled the three-match series by 1-1.

In the second ODI match of the South Africa tour of India 2022, India defeated South Africa by seven wickets at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.

South African captain, Keshav Maharaj won the toss and elected to bat first. The pitch turned out to be slow and therefore batsmen had to struggle in the initial period of the inning. Once settled, batters could have expected more runs. However, the Indian bowling setup had some other ideas. Mohammed Siraj, Washington Sundar and co. troubled the Proteas and thus the team could only reach 278/7.

While chasing, Indian openers, Shikhar Dhawan (13) and Shubman Gill (28) had a decent start to their inning. Following them, Ishan Kishan (93) played an outstanding knock which consisted of four fours and seven sixes. Along with him, Shreyas Iyer (113*) also hammered a magnificent century. The right-handed batter struck 15 boundaries to lead the Men in Blue to victory. Both the batters had constructed a partnership of over 160 runs which made sure that India levelled the series.

In the first innings, after struggling at the start, the Proteas batters somehow managed to pull up their socks and score decent enough runs on the board. Aiden Markram (79), and Reeza Hendricks (74) were the top scorer for SA. Both the batsmen set up 129 runs together for a third-wicket partnership which helped SA calm down in the middle overs.

Mohammed Siraj was exceptional today with the ball as he picked up three wickets. With him, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Ahmed managed to take one wicket each as well.

For SA, Wayne Parnell, Bjorn Fortuin and Kagiso Rabada plucked one wicket each.

Shreyas Iyer won the Man of the Match award for his magnificent century. Following this win, India have levelled the three-match series by 1-1.
