India tour of Ireland 2023 1st T20I: Bumrah stars in India’s rain-affected win

Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling show.

In the first T20I match of the three-match series, India beat Ireland by 2 runs (DLS method) at the Malahide Cricket Club Ground or the Village in Dublin.

India won the toss and opted to field first. The decision turned out right, as the bowlers did a commendable job of restricting Ireland to just around 140. Although at a point the score was 59/6, from that point on, Team India should have stopped the Irish side to even less score.

In the chase, Indian openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal (24) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (19*), were decent enough which built a pretty decent foundation for the forthcoming batters. For the first wicket partnership, both batters scored 46 runs. With rain pouring down continuously, the game was called off, and India were declared the winner on the basis of the DLS method.

For Ireland with the bat, only Curtis Campher (39*) looked firm, along with Barry McCarthy (51) who posted an incredible fifty. While Curtis scored three fours and one sixes, McCarthy struck four fours and four sixes. The scoreboard was looking quite dull before McCarthy arrived, nevertheless, it was all changed after his humongous knock towards the end.

In his comeback on the international stage, Jasprit Bumrah scalped two wickets in the first innings. Prasidh Krishna and Ravi Bishnoi also managed to claim two wickets each, while Arshdeep Singh got one.

Craig Young was the only bowler to grab wickets for the home side. In just five deliveries, the right-arm medium bowler picked up two wickets.

Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling show. Following this win, India are now one up in the three-match T20I series.

Scorecard:

Ireland: 139/7, Overs 20, Barry McCarthy 51*, Jasprit Bumrah 2/24
