Genesis inks association with DP World Tour’s Korean event

As part of the deal, Genesis has been named the official presenting sponsor of the event.

The Korean luxury car brand, Genesis has inked a new sponsorship association with the inaugural Korea Championship, a new golf event that will be co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the Korea Professional Golfers’ Association (KPGA).

As part of the deal, the brand has been named the official presenting sponsor of the event.

The Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon will host the Korea Championship Presented by Genesis from April 27 to 30, 2023. It will be the first DP World Tour competition held in Korea in ten years.

The Presidents Cup, the Genesis Invitational on the PGA TOUR, and the Genesis Championship on the Korean Tour are already sponsored by Genesis. The Scottish Open, which is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour, also has Genesis as its title sponsor.

Mike Song, Global Head of Genesis, said, “Genesis is sponsoring major golf tournaments alongside PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and KPGA, allowing more people to become familiar with the brand. Through our audacious commitment to golf, we will continue to increase our brand value globally and serve as a reliable supporter of Korean men’s professional golf.”

Koo Ja-cheol, Chairman of the KPGA, said, “I am excited to co-host an event with the DP World Tour and I hope that the Korea Championship will provide an opportunity to strengthen the collaboration between KPGA and the DP World Tour. I would like to express my gratitude to Genesis who have decided to sponsor this tournament.”

Plans for the occasion were first made public in November along with the DP World Tour’s 2023 schedule. The prize pool for the competition will be $2 million (€1.8 million). The DP World Tour and PGA Tour strengthened their ties with the KPGA in December.

The KPGA’s Genesis Point Award Winner will receive membership in the DP World Tour for the next season as part of the improved partnership, beginning with the current 2023 season.

Wang Jeunghun, a three-time DP World Tour champion, and Kim Yeongsu, the winner of the 2022 Genesis Point Award, will compete in the first Korea Championship Presented by Genesis. Robert MacIntyre of Scotland and Rasmus Hjgaard of Denmark will be among the international participants.
