Formula E lands multi-year media rights deal with CMG

Following the deal, CMG will deliver extensive coverage of every Formula E race per season both on TV and online medium, via its CCTV broadcaster.

Formula E has secured a multi-year media rights pact with the Chinese state-owned media company, China Media Group (CMG).  

Following the deal, CMG will deliver extensive coverage of every Formula E race per season both on TV and online medium, via its CCTV broadcaster.

The arrangement will cover every 17 races of the 2024 campaign which will commence on January 13 in Mexico. 

The TV channels, CCTV5 and CCTV5+ will broadcast the competition on linear TV whereas the people in China can also stream the event on CMG’s digital platform, Yangshipin. 

Commenting on this remarkable media rights deal, Jeff Dodds, Formula E’s Chief Executive, commented, “This is huge for Formula E as we get ready to race in our biggest season yet. For the first time, every Formula E race will be available live in China on CCTV, the nation’s largest sports platform. We are excited to work with CMG as a major new media partner for Formula E and focus on supercharging our audience growth in China through the coming seasons.”

China Media Group, popularly referred to as Voice of China is the country’s leading state media organisation in terms of radio and television transmission. It was established on March 21, 2018, with the merger of China Radio International, China Central Television, and China National Radio, among other state-owned media companies. The Central Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party directly oversees CMG.
