The second-largest multi-sport event in the world, the Asian Games 2022 is all set to take place in Hangzhou, China, from today, i.e., September 19 to October 8. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the postponement of the Asian Games from the initial date of September 2022 to 2023.

The Hangzhou sporting carnival will feature contests in 40 sports and 61 categories among 45 nations. A total of 655 athletes from India have been sent to the Games to compete in 39 sports. 68 Indians will compete in athletics, which will have the largest Indian representation.

There will be several Indian superstars competing in the Asian event. Both the men’s and women’s Indian cricket teams will compete at the Games for the first time in history. Ruturaj Gaikwad will be the team’s captain for the men, while Smriti Mandhana will take the helm for the women since Harmanpreet Kaur is expected to serve a two-match suspension. The athletics contingent’s main draw will be the reigning Asian Games winner, Neeraj Chopra.

Additionally, the Badminton contingent will have players like HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, and Lakshya Sen compete. There are several Indian boxers competing in the Games, including Shiva Thapa, Nikhat Zareen, and Lovlina Borgohain. Sharath Kamal Achanta, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Manika Batra, and Sreeja Akula will be among the table tennis contingent. Kishore Kumar Jena, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Sreeshanker, Jeswin Alrdin Johnson, and Avinash Sable are some of the members of the athletic group.
